North Carolina Photography—Bringing the Good Life into Sharp Focus
Your North Carolina photography, especially those that include you and your family and friends, will reveal everyone enjoying the good life. In addition, your North Carolina pictures will be as diverse and interesting as the state’s many regions and attractions. One method to help you plan your North Carolina vacation and photo album is to think of the state as three distinct sections: the coastal plain, the central area or Piedmont and the western mountains of Appalachia. Each offers different reasons to capture your visits in pictures.
Photographing the coastal plain starts with the Outer Banks, a great string of sandy islands that jut into the Atlantic. A North Carolina beach vacation is always a great subject of family photos, but there is so much more to learn and preserve in pictures. Start with the Historic Albemarle Tour and choose any of its 29 sites. They include Roanoke Island where the English failed in their attempt to found the first colony in the New World, nearby Fort Raleigh National Historic Site, Native American settlements, lighthouses and maritime museums. As you travel along the Outer Banks, have your camera ready for the stunning Atlantic Ocean views at the Cape Hatteras National Seashore and Kill Devil Hills where the Wright Brothers made their historic flight.
Your pictures of the Piedmont region of North Carolina will include the state’s two largest cities, Raleigh to the north and Charlotte to the southwest. As the state capital, Raleigh always presents itself in that soft, Southern light that’s perfect for photographs of everything you’ll see during the city’s many walking, biking and carriage tours. Travel on to Charlotte, one of the most modern cities of the South. Your eye and camera will be attracted to the exciting nightlife and arts community as well as the stately mansions of the city’s past. Attractions as diverse as the NASCAR Hall of Fame, the Reed Gold Mine and the U.S. National Whitewater Center will provide your family with hours of entertainment and education that you’ll want to record in pictures.
