What regular computer maintanence should I do on a laptop computer?
I just recently bought a new Compaq laptop computer after having a huge desktop HP for over 5 years. Just wondering what weekly or monthly maintenance things I need to be doing?
I already know about deleting internet temporary files through the “internet options” on the control panel
Anything else I need to do?
I remember on my old computer how I would go in every month or so and “defrag” computer…..How do I do that on this laptop…..or is it needed?
I have bought McAfee computer protection……does that program do any maint type stuff to clean off junk?
Anything else I need to know? I’m not a computer tech type person, so please explain in simple terms.

First of all and most important – don’t download programs unless you are aware of vendor’s reputation. Download only from trusted sites.
McAfee is fine if you’ve already purchased. If it protects you from viruses then that’s a good step. I would download Spybot S&D, Ad-Aware (free versions) to scan your system for spyware/malware on a weekly basis.
Also it’s best to have a third party firewall installed – not Microsoft Windows’ built-in firewall. Try ZoneAlarm (free version).
